Why am I starting this blog? What's to be the purpose? What should I focus on? I should start with a favorite quote from Henry David Thoreau:
I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms...
First and foremost, this will be a blog about my other aspiration: creative writing. Along the way, since I'm also at heart a software engineer, you'll see posts on various software techniques and on the software industry more broadly.
These two endeavors are not opposed to each other or mutually exclusive. I see software development as a creative outlet, on equal but quite different footing than creative writing. Humans may be better at understanding, but computers are very good at giving instant feedback.
We shall see if I can convince you that language is language, whether it is English or Java: I see creativity and expression in both, and a bit of art if done well.
